【摘要】:Thesetestmethodsaredesignedforusewithcarbon-containingproducts.Theresidualcarboncontentofacokedcarboncontainingbrickorshapeisanindicationofhowmuchcarbonmaybeavailable,inservice,toresistslagattackon,oroxidationlossof,thatbody.Apparentcarbonyieldgivesanestimateoftherelativeefficiencyofthetotalcarbonaceousmattertoberetainedasresidualcarbon.Residualcarbonhasadirectbearingonseveralpropertiesofapitchorresincontainingrefractorysuchasignitedporosity,density,strength,andthermalconductivity.Thesetestmethodsaresuitableforproductdevelopment,manufacturingcontrolandspecificationacceptance.Thesetestmethodsareverysensitivetospecimensize,cokingrates,etc.,therefore,strictcompliancewiththesetestmethodsiscritical.Appreciableamountsofreduciblecomponents,suchasFe2O3,willhaveanoticeableeffectontheresults.Thus,valuesobtainedbythesetestmethodswillbedifferentwhenbrickremovedfromserviceistested.Thismustbekeptinmindwhenattemptingtousethesetestmethodsinanabsolutesense.Oxidizablecomponentssuchasmetalsandcarbidescanhaveanoticeableeffectontheresults.Thismustbekeptinmindwhenusingthesecondprocedure,whichisbasedonmeasuringweightlossafterignitingthecokedspecimens.Testingofbrickorshapesthatcontainmagnesiummetalpresentsspecialproblemssincethismetalishighlyvolatileandsubstantialamountsofthemagnesiumcanbelostfromthesampleduringthecokingprocedure.Thismustbekeptinmindwheninterpretingtheresultsoftestingofbrickthatcontainmagnesium.Inaddition,magnesiumcanreactreadilywithatmospherichumidity.Thismustbekeptinmindwhenstoringbrickthatcontainmagnesium.1.1Thesetestmethodscoverthedeterminationofresidualcarboncontentincarbon-bearingbrickandshapesafteraprescribedcokingtreatment.Theyprovidetwoprocedures.Thefirstprocedureisbasedonthecombustionofcarbonanditsmeasurementascarbondioxide.However,whenusingthefirstprocedureforarticlesthatcontainsiliconcarbideorothercarbides,nodistinctionwillbemadebetweencarbonpresentintheformofacarbideandcarbonpresentaselementalcarbon.Thesecondprocedureprovidesamethodforcalculatingapparentresidualcarbon(onthebasisofweightlossafterignitingthecokedspecimens),apparentcarbonaceousmaterialcontent,andapparentcarbonyield.Ifthesecondprocedureisusedforbrickorshapesthatcontainmetallicadditivesorcarbides,itmustberecognizedthattherewillbeaweightgainassociatedwiththeoxidationofthemetals,orcarbides,orboth.Suchaweightgaincanchangetheresultssubstantiallyandthismustbekeptinmindwheninterpretingthedata.1.2Thevaluesstatedininch-poundunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.Thevaluesgiveninparenthesesareforinformationonly.1.3Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
